Hi guys! I Started a new YouTube channel and my first video is a short guide on how I updated my resume to put my best foot forward for all the opportunities I’ll be pursuing this year. You can watch the video on YouTube, and also use this post as a reference. I have added all of the stages of my resume revision below to support you as you complete yours!
- Identify a job title or job cluster that you are optimizing this resume for.
- Identify 5-7 skills and priorities you want to highlight in this resume based on your desired job title.
- Open up a clean copy of your current resume and write a “So What?” blurb for every resume bullet.
4. Synthesize the old resume bullet and “So What?” blurb. If needed, you can copy and paste the old bullet and the So What blurb into ChatGPT or other AI with the prompt “Optimize this resume bullet for a [insert industry/job title] role”.
5. Color code the new bullets according to the 5-7 priorities you identified in step #2.
6. Using the colors as a guide, cut out excessive info, review which colors are under-represented and revise the resume to represent them more, and scan the document to see where you can add more metrics/numbers/quantities.
7. Continue editing, cutting, and revising. Re-format resume and aim to make it 2 pages or less (suggested)
